AGRA: A teenage girl from Etimadpur area had her right hand chopped off at the shoulder by assailants who allegedly tried but failed to rape her.
The 16-year-old resident of Ishtauli village in Etimadpur was admitted to a private hospital by her relatives late on Tuesday night with serious injuries.
"On Tuesday night, my mother and I had gone to a field near our house to answer nature’s call, when two bike-borne men came up on us from behind and gagged me with clothes.
When I tried to resist them, they slapped me and attempted to rape me. When I continued resisting, they hacked my right arm off,” the girl alleged.
Senior police officials, including deputy superintendent of police and Etimadpur circle officer
Abhishek Singh and DSP Babita Sahu, who is circle officer (rural) visited the girl to take her statement on Wednesday evening. However, by then the girl and her mother had changed their statement, now claiming that she lost her arm when a speeding train hit her while she was defecating near the railway tracks.
"Prima facie, it appears to be a simple case of accident, where a speeding train hit the girl and cut off her arm,” Singh told TOI, dismissing the claim that the girl had been attacked by two men.
On being asked why the girl had alleged assault and attempted rape in her earlier statement, the DSP said, “She was influenced by a local political leader to make the claim, so that the family could get her treated for free for the accidental injury with the help of the government.”
However, the police officer refused to give the name of the political leader who had allegedly influenced the family to make the earlier claim.
